Universitas Negeri Semarang – Unnes is one of the State Universities in Central Java. UNNES is one ex-college Teachers’ Training College which increased to university status. Its main campus is located in the area have now (Gunungpati), the southern city of Semarang, Central Java. The history of the development of the State University of Semarang Semarang formerly known as Teachers’ Training College has begun with the establishment of teacher education institutions on the SMTA. Teacher education institutions are: Middelbaar Onderwijzer A Cursus (MO-A) and B Onderwijzer Middelbaar Cursus (MO-B). Both an educational institution that is prepared by the Dutch colonial government which aims to prepare teachers SMTP and SMTA. Course MO-A and MO-B held in Semarang until 1950 In 1950, MO-A course used BI Course and Course MO-B used as Course B-II held until 1960.
Further developments can be seen from the Unnes stages as follows.
Period 1960-1963: Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling) and High School Sports (STO)
In 1960, BI Course and Course B-II integrated into the University of Diponegoro become a Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling). In 1963, Department of Physical Education which was originally part of the course is split into a B-II High School Sports (STO) that standing alone under the Ministry of Sports.
Period 1963-1965: Institute of Teacher Training and Education (Teachers’ Training College) Yogyakarta Semarang branch
In 1963 issued Presidential Decree for the establishment of Teachers’ Training College as an educational institution education personnel. at that time there were only four, namely Teacher Training Institute in Jakarta, Bandung, Malang and Yogyakarta. FKIP Undip are considered not able to stand alone set into Teacher Training Institute Yogyakarta Semarang branch.
Period 1965-1999: Teachers’ Training College Semarang
Teachers’ Training College Yogyakarta Semarang branch is growing rapidly. So that its development is more focused on the future, while waiting for the Presidential Decree, PTIP promulgated Decree No. PTIP 40 of 1965 dated March 8, 1965, which sets the Teachers’ Training College Teacher Training Institute Yogyakarta Semarang Semarang branch consisting of the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Teaching Literature and the Arts, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Teacher Training exact sciences, and the Teacher Training Faculty of Engineering. In 1977 sports teacher education program back to the parent in a new container called the Teaching Faculty of Sport Sciences (FKIK).
Period of 1999 s / d now: State University of Semarang (Unnes)
With the issuance of the presidential decree Number 124 of 1999 on the change Teachers ‘Training College in Semarang, Bandung and Medan into university, then called the Teachers’ Training College, State University of Semarang Semarang abbreviated Unnes. In 2000 the names of faculty in Unnes changed to: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Language and Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sport Sciences, and the Graduate Program. In 2006 stand Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law established a year later Unnes, founding two new faculty is a consequence became a university.
