The idea of Prof. dr. Sardjito to set up a hospital that can provide services to the community as well as the location of educating future physicians and specialist candidates are near Gadjah Mada University campus has been realized by the company consolidated several UGM Hospital (the only hospital owned Gadjah Mada University at the time) spread in the city of Yogyakarta in the hospital. The hospital is located in an area Sekip inside the campus, close to the Faculty. The hospital was inaugurated on February 8, 1982 under the name General Hospital dr. Sardjito.
RSUP dr. Sardjito operates with start-up capital in the form of equipment and human resources of the RS UGM, MOH financing from the state budget and managing director Prof. dr. Ismangoen. The hospital became the primary teaching hospital for the Faculty, with all parts of Faculty of Medicine Clinic located in the department of dr. Sardjito.
Currently RSUP dr. Sardjito has grown rapidly into a hospital grade A large and magnificent education, with more than 750 beds, more than 3,000 employees and become a hospital for medical education, medical specialists and sub-specialists / specialist consultants, nurses, dietisien, pharmacists and other -Other. In recent years, educators and learners are studying the profession in this hospital felt that RSUP dr. Sardjito is not sufficient anymore as a place to acquire clinical skills, especially for medical students (students of the medical profession). Given the capacity that is not balanced by the number of students so if the RS as a clinical education is not developed / added capacity, it is feared the quality of graduates of the medical profession and the health field UGM will not be able to support the vision of UGM as a World Class Research University. In addition, the development of hospital services in the world leading to an integrated service, and comprehensive multiprofessional then added a hospital need to be able to answer the challenge and become a single unit houses both sakityang excel in areas of service, education and research in accordance with the vision of UGM.
RSA UGM was built in stages in accordance with the development strategy of growth and development with state funds Kemendikbud. RSA UGM was designed with the basic concept of a unified and integrated health pelavanan in clusters with a multiprofessional team work and clinical education system “interprofessional and transprofessional”. To accommodate the concept of GMU Academic Hospital was built with the following stages:
- Phase 1 includes the cluster of primary care and specialist outpatient care, emergencies, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and non-medical support.
- Phase 2 includes the construction of advanced outpatient and inpatient care for the entire cluster so that by the time the building was finished seluruhnva then lavanan integrated outpatient specialist can be transferred to each cluster to produce more tangible pelavanan integrated.
- Phase 3 includes the development of education and research community from basic to advanced, as well as other supporting facilities such as homeless for the patient’s family and so on.
In 2012, GMU Academic Hospital has prepared operational with 100 beds and hope in the period of 2-3 years can be operational at a teaching hospital fully according to plan development strategies RSA UGM.
