PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) operates a coal mine in Sangatta East Kalimantan and is one of the largest export coal mines in the world.
1978
- The Government of Indonesia invites tenders from foreign companies for the exploration and development of coal resources in east and south Kalimantan. A BP/CRA joint venture was successful in bidding for an area of 7,900 sq. km in two blocks extending 300 km along the coast of eastern Kalimantan
1982
- PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) incorporated in Indonesia with BP and CRA each holding 50% of the shares. KPC licensed to conduct exploration and mining of coal based on a Coal Contract of Works (CCOW) with the concession covering 90,706 ha. The Indonesian State Coal Company (PTBA) to receive 13.5% entitlement of all production
1988
- KPC decision to proceed with the development of an export mine with a design capacity of 7 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) following detailed exploration and a feasibility study of prospects close to Sangatta. The prospect has substantial quantity of high quality coal reserves, is close to a coast line with deep water and is strategically located to service growing markets. KPC subsequently relinquished most of the original Agreement Area, retaining 1,961 sq. km
1989
- Construction commences in January. The budget for the project is US$570 M
1990
- Work on the large scale mine development commences in June
1991
- All major items were commissioned by late 1991
1992
- Commercial exports begin in January 1992

Jobs Description
Senior Engineer – Mechanical (Fixed Term Position)
Requirements :
- Tertiary degree (S1) in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable university.
- At least 5 years of experience in construction project and/or bulk handling and/or mining environment.
- Comprehensive understanding and experience in implementing Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) by managing a number of large-scale projects.
- Have a good understanding of mining industry.
- Strong knowledge in Mechanical Standards and Codes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong concerns for HSES.
Supervisor – Electrical (Fixed Term Position)
Requirements :
- Technical senior High School/SMK or D3 in Electrical.
- Holds 6 years plus related experiences for D3 or 10 years plus of related experiences for SMK.
- Have attended training courses on Blue Print Reading, CPR, Instrument, PLC, PUIL (General Regulation of Electrical Installation) issued by PLN (State-owned company for electricity), Tagging Procedure, and Control Schemes.
- Have a good knowledge of National and International Electrical Standards.
- Able to implement KPC standard safety procedures.
- Able to solve problems and give quick response.
- Have a good understanding about Project Management tools and techniques.
- Ability to work with a diverse team of professionals and equipment/plant operators.
- Possess Driver’s License.
- English competency for reading manuals (level 3).
Specialist – Competency Management (Fixed Term Position)
Requirements :
- Tertiary degree (S1) in Human Resources Management, Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or other related disciplines.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in competency modeling, competency assessment, assessment tools development, employee development, and competency system.
- Have a good knowledge of up-to-date human resources and competency management issues.
- Strong sense of analytical thinking, good problem-solving and time management competencies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Demonstrated good presentation and facilitation skills.
Geologist (Fixed Term Position)
Requirements :
- Tertiary degree (S1) in Geology from a recognized tertiary Institution.
- At least 3 years experiences in geology exploration / mining.
- Have a good understanding of the quality and properties of the coal.
- Extensive software skills such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.
- Have driving license class A (SIM A) and off road driving experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Common sense basic bush/jungle survival skills.
Graduate – IT (Fixed Term Position)
Requirements :
- Hold an S1/S2 majoring in Informatics Engineering, System and Technology Information, Electro Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Business Information Technology.
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grade scale (for S1) or 3.25 on a 4.0 grade scale (for S2).
- Maximum age of 25 years old (for S1) or 28 years old (for S2) in the year of admittance.
- Fluent in English (minimum at Intermediate level).
