About Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU)
Komisi Pemilihan Umum – KPU is a state agency that organizes elections in Indonesia. Chairman of the Commission is currently Husni Kamil Manik.
Duties and authority
In Article 10 of Law No. 3 of 1999 on General Elections and Article 2 of Presidential Decree No. 16 Year 1999 on the Establishment of the National Election Commission and the Establishment of Organization and Administration of the General Secretariat of the Election Commission, explained that in order to implement the Election, the Commission has the authority to task as follows:
- Plan and prepare for the upcoming general elections;
- Receive, investigate and establish the Political Parties Elections eligible participants;
- Forming the Indonesian Election Committee, hereinafter referred to PPI and coordinate the activities of the General Elections from the national level to at voting places, hereinafter referred to TPS;
- Specify the number of seats in the DPR, DPRD I and II for each electoral district;
- Establishes the overall results of the General Election in all the electoral districts for the DPR, DPRD I and II;
- Collect and systematized the material as well as data from the General Election;
- Leading Election stages of activity.
In Section 2 of Presidential Decree No. 16 of 1999 there were additional letters:
Other duties and authority set forth in Law No. 3 of 1999 on General Elections.
Whereas in Article 11 of Law No. 3 of 1999 is also added, that in addition to the duties and authority of the Commission as referred to in Article 10, no later than three (3) years after the Elections were held, the Commission evaluated the Electoral system.
