Lembaga Perlindungan Saksi dan Korban – LPSK was established based on law No. 13 of 2006 on the protection of witnesses and victims. The birth of the witness protection act and sacrifice that takes long enough is intended to fight for diakomodasinya the rights of witnesses and victims in the criminal justice process. The idea to bring the legislation of protection of witnesses and victims began in 1999, in which some elements of society began to prepare the design of witness protection legislation. Indonesia ratified the UN Convention Against Corruption in 2003. In early February 2006 Commission DPR RI Working Committee formed that consists of 22 people to discuss the BILL’S protection of witnesses and victims. In July 2006, Plenary meeting of the HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES finally passed the BILL and the victim into a witness protection ACT protection of witnesses and victims. The ten factions in the HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES supporting the existence of the ACT. August 11, 2006, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono confirmed the legislation protection of witnesses and Victims (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Year 2006 number 64). One of the mandate contained in the ACT of witness protection and victims of this Institution is the establishment of witness protection and Victim (LPSK) established at the latest one year after the victim and witness protection ACT was passed. In a further development, LPSK formed on August 8, 2008. In the ACT on protection of witnesses and Victims mentioned that an independent institution is LPSK but is responsible to the President. Mentioned also that the protection of witnesses and Victims is a duty and authorized institutions to provide protection and other rights to Witnesses and/or Victims as provided for in the Act. The scope of this protection is at all stages of the criminal justice process. The purpose of this Act is to provide a sense of security to witnesses and/or victims in giving information in the criminal justice process.
